Happy feet, sad hair
Just as I tell you about my shoe search, it comes to a happy end. I found the perfect pair this weekend and my tootsies are so happy.
Two years ago I was at a tradeshow in Boston and after standing around in heels on a concrete floor for an entire day, I thought my feet were going to fall off. I somehow managed to hobble to a DSW where I bought what is by far the ugliest pair of shoes I’ve ever owned, but also the most deliciously wonderfully comfortable ones. They’re Merrells (and that’s in the present tense because yes, I still bust them out on the weekends for shopping marathons and long walks on the sea wall).
Well wouldn’t you know, Merrell still makes super comfy shoes… but luckily, they’ve gotten a whole lot better looking.
Here are my new Merrell Petunias:
Did I just put my foot up on the bathroom counter to show you my shoes? Yep, I did. The website didn’t do them justice, to the point where I probably wouldn’t have ordered them online. Luckily I didn’t have to – I found them at Freedman right here in Vancouver.
Aren’t they fabulous? Oh all right, all right – they’re no showstopper heels. But you know, I’ve come to terms with the fact that I’ll have to live vicariously through the shoe collections of gals like Tiffany for the next few months. And I’m okay with it.
I was kinda impressed with myself that I could do that, actually, even with my belleh getting in the way. Put my foot up there, I mean. I’d like to say it’s from all the prenatal yoga I’m doing but, ahhhh… nope. It’s more like years of toenail painting.
Oh, and I also got my hair did last weekend. Didja notice?
Going dark a couple months ago seemed like a good idea at the time but the novelty soon wore off and I felt mousey.
Here’s what it looked like (and yes, that’s a belly pic from 14 weeks… I have a whole series of them I’ll be editing and showing you soon so you can see the belly explosion. Gosh, looking at it, I realize I already find it hard to remember what it was like to have a waist!):
So I went back to blonde… and since I got talked out of cutting it all off short by both my sister-in-law (“Don’t do it! I did with my last pregnancy and once my face went puffy it was all sorts of terrible!”) and my stylist Jen (“We’re actually not allowed to do a drastic cut for pregnant women – they teach us that in school.”), I went for some Reese-esque bangs just to shake things up a bit.
Oh, it’s shook all right.
Awww maaaannn. If only I could rock them like some other cuties I know.
Pregnancy lessons learned this week:
1. New shoes that make you feel like you’re walking on clouds = GOOD.
2. Fresh hair cut that you think will magically melt those 20 new pounds, some of which ended up on your face = BAD.
Oh well. They’ll grow back in a few weeks… right?

My name is Kasia Fink and nothing makes me happier than finding goodness. This is a collection of my findings... I mean, finkings.

Oh but wait now…i LOVE it!! Do you realize how easily you look like a beautiful celebs, btw?! And the Reese-esque look is totally hot-mama! I liked the brown locks when I saw you in person, but your pics make blonde seem OhSoMoAppropro!
your haircut is fab!!!
But they look so awesome on you!!!! And blonde is definitely your color. You’re a hot mamacita!!!
i actually really love the haircut! i think the bangs make you look even more stylish :)
What are you talking about?? The bangs look great!! You definitely have a face for bangs. I wish I could get them ( have really curly hair and it would just be a really bad idea.) Cute shoes, too :)
Love the sassy bangs! And the shoes!
I love the bangs and the brighter color! I would keep them for at least two weeks and see how many people comment on them.
Whaaaat?!?! I LOVE the new hair!!! I think it looks fantastic! But I understand not liking it… I tend to hate any new hairstyle/cut I get for at least a week or two and then realize all of a sudden that I DO like it… hopefully you’lle nd up loving yours as well!
What are you talking about lady!? You look ADORABLE! I may have to try some of those Merrill’s at my next event. Currently, I’m obsessed with Cole Haan Nike Airs – but those look even comfier.
I agree with others…the bangs are really cute
Ooh, yes! I’m moving to DC in ten days and our scouting trips to find an apartment have left me with bruised and broken and chafed feet – we live in Dallas now so I need to readjust my idea of practical footwear ;-). These are fantastic!
I love the haircut!!! I actually joined the same bangs movement almost a year ago, and I thought I would cry when I realized what I’d done. Then, I went to an event that night, and EVERYBODY LOVED THEM! I mean, I got compliments from people who I’m sure have never noticed me before! I think the same will be true for you – it looks GREAT on you, and you are most definitely rocking the look!
The bangs are awesome!! Keep them! It took me awhile to get used to mine. You look gorgeous.
I think your bangs look fabulous! Bangs are a funny thing though – very personal – and while I’ve loved them on so many people, when I got my first swoopy bangs a two months ago, I must admit that I instantly realized they were wrong for me. Bangs really change your face shape and while I like them sometimes in a mirror, I have yet to see a picture of me where I like my new bangs. But they grow fast. And you are preggers, so if you don’t like yours, they will be grown out in like 2 weeks!
Love that they have a “nothing dramatic for knocked up chicks” hair policy! Love it!
