A Sun Peaks ski weekend (minus the ski)

March 23, 2009

The Finks haven’t set a toe outside the city since Christmas when we flew to Calgary to visit my parents and my bro and his family. Considering we live in Vancouver where beauty is just a half hour’s drive outside the city skirts, that’s pretty pathetic.

This past weekend, the Mister had to go to Sun Peaks for work and, being the amazing man he is, he took on some additional non-necessary stresses and planned an amazing getaway for me and two other couple-friends of ours.

So Friday after work (well, kinda… my boss ROCKS and let me leave early) we jumped in our cars and headed east to Sun Peaks.

It’s about a 4.5 hr drive but it sure doesn’t feel that long when you’ve got good friends and If… (Questions for the Game of Life) <–  I highly, highly recommend it. It’s one of my favorite books ever.

Sun Peaks is adorably small compared to Whistler. If you were there for longer than a weekend I could imagine boredom would come fairly easily (oh wait, if you’re a non-skiier like me, I mean) but otherwise it’s just way too cute. Bavarian cute (oxymoron?).

At one point I could have sworn I saw the Gingerbread man from Shrek come traipsing out of one of these pastel-colored houses.

We were in one of these suites for the weekend. AWESOME.

Being at a ski hill, yes there was some skiing involved but I did not take part. When Mr Fink told me about how wonderful the snow was and how great it would’ve been for me to practice since there were so few people on the hill, I kind of regretted not going (my last attempt was 2 yrs ago and I was rewarded with a self-inflicted whiplash). But I can’t REALLY regret it because Steph and I went snowshoeing instead–and It. Was. Awesome. Sure, snowshoes are kind of just an excuse to go for a walk in the forest but it was JUST the excuse I needed to get off my People-magazine-reading butt.

The best part of the whole weekend though? The hot tub – featuring a view of the mountain in the background. But wait, you aren’t looking at the background, are you? Yeah, I don’t blame you. Those are three really HOT men. No pun intended. (Well ok fine, maybe it was a little intended.)

Hot tub bubbles + pink champagne bubbles = GOOD FINKING!

Don’t you just love when you go through your photos and see ones that your friends took without you knowing? Without fail, those are my favorites. Such as this one:

On our way in, we stopped at the Save On Foods in Kamloops for supplies with the intention of making one grandiose dinner – no small feat for three couples. We must all be really, really easy-going because it was a breeze. Either that or Kelly is an amazing chef. Actually, I think it was both.

Here’s the Very Awkward Picture of Us Eating Dinner. (Gotta love those.)

Then it was Taboo time. That game kills me. It’s so simple and yet so cray-zay. Or wait, maybe that’s just because we’re cray-zay.

The only one that stuck in my mind? My husband saying: “This is what Kasia calls me most of the time” when trying to get his teammate to say the word “juvenile”. Nice one, honey.

What a wonderful weekend.
