Cougars and manthers and newspapers, oh my!

February 18, 2009

I know, I know. I’m pathetic, right? Valentine’s Day was four days ago – it’s such old news! Yes, I am hanging my head in shame as I write this but I’m hiding behind the ‘better late than never’ adage again.

I wish I had more time to dedicate to writing here but the truth is, my dear little personal blog is pretty much in life support mode until I get those gosh darned (love ‘em but they take so much outta me) wedding recaps done on Weddingbee. Not to mention the other 58 things on my to-do list.

So this is going to be short. But sweet. And maybe spicy too.

Mr Fink and I did our little Valentine’s love fest Friday (there may have been some sushi involved) so Saturday morning as I sleepily stumbled down the stairs, the only thing on my mind was how much I was dreading pulling on my boots and braving the fresh air (ugh) to trundle on down to the corner store for my weekly Globe and Mail run.

So imagine my delight when I saw this:

Aw Mr Fink, you’re the bestest. Honestly. It cost $2.75 plus the rose (which was probably thrice the regular price… grrr I hate florists on V-day) but the thoughtfulness was priceless. Truly, it was the best thing I could have asked for. Oh and pancakes. But I got those, too.

We spent the rest of the day vegging and planning our outfits (well, I did, anyway) for that evening’s event: the Cougars and Manthers party, in honor of our friend’s 30th birthday.

We started off at Sunrise Pizza on Commercial where the throwback-to-the-70s decor was right up our alley, as was the deliciously caloriffic and CHEAP food. (Plus the service was amazing. Really, I actually do kinda heart that place.)

Rawrrr. Didn’t we look the part?

We later prowled on over to the other side of Cambie to the Regal Beagle where the baring of claws continued. Speaking of which, have you been there lately? Wow, what an amazing renovation! Almost TOO fancy for our cougarish blood.

Much debauchery ensued, etcetera etcetera.

Unconventional? Yes. Unforgettable? You bet your leopard print.

Although I’d never thought of it before, it really is one of the best ways to spend the holiday of love – surrounded by lovely friends who are just as silly as you are. (And if your hubs is there too, even better.)

Yay, your first V-day as a Mrs.! It seems that pancakes were a popular dish this weekend, I heard a few people mention them. (I too made some for my special man friend who had not had pancakes in years. How sad!) I suppose it is a little more romantic than the All Bran.

I’m with you on spending it with friends. We had dinner with a couple of our single lady friends, was a nice way to spend our first married V-Day.

Going to have to steal the Cougars and Manthers theme, our friends would have a blast with that.

Ahhh the flower is so sweet! I love the shots with the lipstick on the cheek.

At first, my brain could not comprehend the word “Manthers” at this late hour. Then it slowly but surely figured it out and I laughed out loud! What an awesome and unique party idea.
